Sofía Maruri Armand-Ugón

Sofía Maruri Armand-Ugón is a lawyer and a lecturer on law and religion and human rights as a member of the Council of the Faculty of Law, Universidad de Montevideo. She is also a PhD student at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid, Spain. Maruri holds a bachelor’s degree in
theology and religious studies from the Università della Santa Croce in Italy, and a master’s degree in international human rights law from the University of Oxford. She advises a number of Uruguayan legislators and national and international NGOs on human rights issues. Maruri’s research interests include the right to freedom of expression, the right to freedom of religion or belief, the right to life, and women’s rights.
