Mukami Wangai

Mukami Wangai is a lecturer at Strathmore University Law School, Nairobi, Kenya, and a researcher at Strathmore Centre for Law and Policy. She is also a visiting lecturer at the University of Navarre Faculty of Law, Spain. She holds a BA in economics and law from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, and an LLM from Duke University. She completed a graduate diploma in law (GDL) and the bar professional training course at the College of Law, London, and was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2012. Wangai is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Cape Town. Her research interests include law and religion, restorative justice, electoral law, and nonprofit law and management. Her current research focuses on the experiences of emerging democracies in religious freedom, constitution building, and elections. Using an interdisciplinary approach, she explores the development of rights and fundamental freedoms in these contexts as indicators of their transitions to democracy. She has published on comparative judicial interpretations of the right to freedom of religion, belief, conscience, and opinion.
