Lukas Opacic currently lectures in constitutional law and public law at the University of Sydney. He holds a BSc (pure mathematics), JD, LLM, and PhD from the University of Sydney. Opacic’s research draws on the work of theorists like John Milbank, Alasdair MacIntyre, and Michael Oakeshott to develop a form of Christian realism that explores the way in which religious traditions frame legal and political discourse. He has worked at the Australian Parliament as the principal policy advisor to the Chair of the Senate Standing Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs and was subsequently an advisor to the Shadow Minister for Education. Prior to that, he was a visiting fellow at the PM Glynn Institute at the Australian Catholic University and a senior policy analyst at the Centre for Independent Studies. Before commencing his university studies, Opacic was a concert pianist and studied at the Gnessin Academy of Music in Moscow, Russia, from 2006 to 2008. He is the organist at Maternal Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Lewisham, Sydney, and is also an enthusiastic (though by no means competent) chess player.
